A COUPLE from Melksham have donated £500 to children’s hospice, Julia’s House, raised from a party they held to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
Melksham Without Parish councillor Mike Mills and his wife Marilyn held a party to celebrate their golden wedding but instead of receiving gifts, they asked for donations for their chosen charity.
Marilyn will be the fourth generation of her paternal family to have reached a golden wedding anniversary.
Mike has been a parish councillor since 1990 and was chairman of the council for 12 years. He is at present chairman of the Bowerhill Village Hall Trust and the Bowerhill Residents Action Group. Marilyn is also a committee member on both these groups, as well as running the Busy Bees sewing group at the village hall.
The guests’ donations reached £450 and Mike and Marilyn added £50, £1 for each year of their marriage making the total £500.
Mike said, “We would like to thank all those who sent cards and donations. A special thank you also to our family for all their help before and on the day in making it a day we won’t forget.”
