The Melksham Town FC Development Team has reached the final of the Wiltshire County FA Junior Cup.
The team, which is a feeder team for the first team and reserves, will face Tisbury United First Team on Friday 28th March after beating Bishops Cannings First Team in the semi-final last month.
The Development Team acts as a pathway from youth football into the adult game. It is not an under-18s side but includes many of the club’s younger players from age 16 upwards, giving them a chance to compete in a men’s league.
“Reaching the final of the Wiltshire County FA Junior Cup is fantastic for the team, especially the younger players,” said Manager Mike Coll. “We’re also going well in our league despite playing catch up because of our cup run.
“The aim of the team is to be part of the pathway for the club’s youth players who want to progress into adult football. We’ve had a couple who have made it onto the bench of the first team and several who have made the jump to the Reserves so that is very promising.
“It’s great to see the team reach the cup final but it’s really all about improving the players and helping them make the jump to the next level.”
The team reached the cup final after five wins in a competition which features 64 teams from Wiltshire and Swindon. The final will take place on Saturday 28th March at Wootton Bassett, kick off 2pm. Further details will be available on the club’s Facebook page.
