CURVES in Avonside, Melksham has raised £1,703.61 for Breast Cancer Care.
During the month of October, Curves joined a worldwide campaign to highlight the importance of breast awareness, education and research. They held an array of events including a Ladies Day, a raffle and a cake decorating contest.
Manager Sue Armstrong said, “We are over the moon with the amount we raised. Our target was £1,000 so to exceed that by £700 is fantastic. We are all so pleased.
“The sponsored events went very well. Zoe Buckland raised £152 from her three and half hours non-stop cycle and Karen Potter raised £380.50 from her sponsored circuit which are both excellent. The Ladies Day was a great success and was enjoyed by everyone.”
During October Curves waivered all service fees when customers signed up, in return, a donation of £20 was recommended to Breast Cancer Care.
Sue continued, “We had nine people join Curves in October which was fantastic because not only did they help raise money for a great cause, they joined our community which we love.
“I’ve worked for Curves for five years now and I have loved every minute of it. It’s great to help women feel good about themselves whether they want to lose a few pounds, tone up or perhaps just to stay healthy and active.”
Owner Pauline Jenkinson said, “Thank you to everyone who got involved and helped us raise the money. Everyone has been so generous with donations and sponsorship and supporting the events.”
Sue said, “Most people have been or will be in some way affected by cancer and people are passionate about raising money for charity. We are so grateful, thank you to everyone.
“Now is a great time to join the Curves community because until the end of the year you only pay a joining fee and the rest of the year is free. It’s perfect if you just want to shift a few stubborn pounds before Christmas.”
