MELKSHAM Neighbourhood Policing Team’s PC Kane Fulbrook-Smith has warned cyclists who insist on cycling on Melksham’s pavements that they can be stopped and given on-the-spot fines of £50.
PC Fulbrook-Smith said, “On Friday 4th April around 11.00am, an 86-year-old male was almost “taken out” by a cyclist riding on the pavement in Church Street, Melksham.
“This left the elderly male very shaken. Fortunately he didn’t sustain any injuries. I would like to point out that on-the-spot fines have now been raised to £50 if cyclists are found committing this offence.
“If for any reason cyclists have to use the pavement, the advice is to get off and push your bike.”
