CHAMPION hurdler Dai Greene, who lives in Melksham, has won gold at the British Championships to confirm his place as the country’s best 400m hurdler.
The reigning World Champion ran a season’s best in 48.66 seconds to take the 400m hurdles gold title at the Sainsbury’s British Championships in Birmingham at the weekend.
He beat his former training partner, Rhys Williams, into second place at the championships, which doubled as the trials for the World Championships in Moscow.
The victory was Dai Greene’s fourth 400m hurdles national title and confirmed that the hurdler is back on track. Following a surprising fifth place result last month, it was found that he was suffering from a virus. The champion also underwent hernia surgery earlier this year.
Dai said, “It was nice to come out here and take the victory. I’m really really pleased. I’ve had a tough few weeks by my high standards so it’s nice to run a season’s best.
“I’d like to think I can push on in the next few races against the top guys and really show my worth ahead of Moscow.”
The reigning World Champion will defend his title when he represents Britain at the World Championships in Moscow.
