Dorothy House Hospice Care is preparing for a bid to enter the Guinness Book of Records.
While meaningful, innovative and exciting fundraising initiatives have always been a priority for the hospice, this attempt will put Dorothy House on the world’s map and highlight the important work we carry out every day in order to serve our local community.
The Dorothy House Moonlight Walk is our famed women-only sponsored 8km walk in the heart of Bath, previously called the Midnight Walk. It has been our biggest annual fundraiser. Last year it hosted over 1,000 entrants and raised over £120,000 towards continuing to support people with life-limiting illnesses.
The event is an opportunity for many to walk in memory of a loved one, a colleague, a friend or family member, and in support of the work we do. The atmosphere is tremendous as hundreds of women fill the streets of Bath city centre dressed in glowing attire and wearing smiles from ear to ear. And while we’re not the only UK hospice to hold a Moonlight walk- we are the first to attempt a world record.
Taking place at the Moonlight Walk in September, our Guinness attempt to smash the current world record for the largest gathering of people wearing boas will commence. While participants are welcome to bring their own boa from home, all registered walkers will be given one as their gift for taking part in the 2016 Moonlight Walk.
This year the event will take place on Saturday 10 September, and the walk will begin at 10pm. It’s open to women aged 14 or over. It will start and finish at SouthGate Bath. Entry is £17 per person and all entrants are asked to raise at least £40 in sponsorship OR make a suggested donation of £40 in lieu of sponsorship for Dorothy House Hospice Care to help celebrate our 40th birthday. Once signed up, full event details and sponsorship forms will be sent to all entrants.
