LOCAL MP Duncan Hames recently welcomed Harry Beer, a mechanical engineering apprentice from Cooper’s of Melksham to Parliament.
Harry, and his manager Kevin Francis were invited to a parliamentary event recognising apprenticeships, hosted by the deputy prime minister, Nick Clegg.
Commenting, Duncan Hames MP said, “The Liberal Democrats in Government have helped business create more than a million private sector jobs and now we’re working to create a million more. We’ve already created 1.2 million apprenticeships across the country, and the number offered each year in the Chippenham constituency has risen by nearly two-thirds since 2010.
“Apprenticeships help young people get the skills employers are asking for, and I am encouraging as many local businesses as possible to offer them. Apprentices like Harry are helping businesses grow; they’re hard-working, keen to learn and are full of new ideas and ambition.”
