COLLISION Fight Academy ends 2013 in style after getting three out of three wins at the Wales vs England martial arts event held in Barry, Wales.
The academy was represented by Calne’s Michael Murphy, Kieran Hardy from Westbury and Melksham’s Danny Sergiu who runs the academy.
The first one to step into the ring was first timer Michael, who faced an opponent from Cardiff. they fought under Muay Thai C class rules. From the start of the fight the English fighter took control of the ring, throwing hard punches and kicks at his opponent, and even sending him to the canvas once. The 2nd round was more even, both fighters showing good clinch and knee strikes, but it all ended in the 3rd round when Michael dropped his opponent with hard punches and the referee decided he was unable to continue the fight.
The second bout was a Muay Thai B class fight for the South West Title between Westbury’s Kieran Hardy and an opponent from Cardiff also.
Kieran started very aggressive, kept a high pace and showed good speed and power in his kicks and punches. He dominated every round, and managed to get the win early in the 4th round after dropping his opponent with a flurry of punches. Last to step into the ring was Collision’s instructor Danny Sergiu who fought for the Welsh middleweight title under Muay Thai B class rules. he was facing an opponent from Swansea. First round was even, both fighters showing caution and respect for each others power and skills. In the 2nd round Sergiu stepped it up, winning that round, and in the third round Sergiu threw a surprise kick straight to his opponents face who hit the canvas shortly after. He had a big heart, managed to get back on his feet, took the referee’s eight count and decided to carry on, but a few seconds later he got dropped again and couldn’t carry on.
Danny said, “I am such a proud instructor, I can’t ask for more. We are growing and growing every year. Since we opened the club just over three years ago we only went up. The statistics for this year are the best ones yet. as far as my mind takes me we have 12 wins and only three losses. Three of the wins brought us a south west area title, a Welsh title and a British title. not bad for such a small club I say.
“Of course we couldn’t have done it without our keen supporters and kind sponsors: Team Breakthrough Health and Performance centre, Bad Boy supplements, Lee Tilley Carpentry and Dynamik gym. they deserve some belts as well for their involvement and support for our club.
“We would like to invite anyone that would like to train with us to one of our classes at Dynamik Gym Westbury or Claverton community hall in Bath, and wish you a Happy New Year!”
