OVER 500 Easter eggs have been donated to Melksham’s Foodbank.
The ‘egg-stremely’ generous donation was organised by three local businesswomen, Kylie Broadhurst, Lisa King and Clare Richter, who rallied the community together to collect 535 Easter eggs.
“We were overwhelmed by people’s generosity,” said Kylie, co-owner of L&K Cleaning, speaking to Melksham News. “It was for a great cause – and after such a rubbish year, it was nice to give something back.”
After sharing their appeal on social media, the pair received donations from local businesses and residents.
“Our biggest donations were from David Charman Removals and Ash Carpet Upholstery Cleaners,” said Kylie.
The pair delivered the donation to the foodbank earlier this month, and were given an insight into the work and support that the charity gives local residents and families.
“They do an amazing job, they support around 200 families a month – maybe even more. There’s never enough food, they need constant help. This pandemic has affected every body, they are needed more than ever. I was just in awe of their work, I just couldn’t believe it. They said that the Easter eggs will make so many people happy – it was lovely, heartwarming.”
Kylie also donated £100 worth of food to the foodbank, and both her and Claire, owner of Clare Richter at Keller Williams, have agreed to organise regular collections.
“We’ve offered to help and we will do this yearly,” said Kylie, “three collections a year at Easter, harvest time and Christmas.”
Manger of Melksham Foodbank, Kay said, “Kylie, Lisa and Clare collected an amazing amount of Easter eggs for the foodbank and delivered them to us last week. We are doing a thank you certificate to all the people who donated to them.
“I am sure all our clients and families will enjoy having an Easter egg as a treat, and I would like to thank everyone that donated eggs, but especially to Kylie, Lisa and Clare for organising it for us. They also brought £100 worth of food items, which we were short of, so this really helped.”
