MELKSHAM Town Football Club has lined up an exciting pre-season as they host Bristol Rovers, Swindon Town and Hereford, all at home at the infiLED arena at Oakfields, to prepare for their first season in the Southern League.
Pre-season friendlies kick off when Melksham Town welcome Hereford FC to Oakfields on Saturday 7th July, kick off 3pm. Hereford were the EvoStik South Premier Division champions last season.
Swindon Town will visit the infiLED arena at Oakfields on Tuesday 10th July, kick off 7.45pm, where Melksham hope to advance on their 5-0 loss during pre-season last year.
Bristol Rovers’ first team will also visit Melksham at home on Saturday 14th July, kick off 3pm. Town were defeated last year 6-1 in front of a crowd of 1,476, a figure they hope to increase this year.
Tickets for all three games combined are £20 for adults, £15 for OAPs, £5 children, and can be purchased and collected from the ground. Town will also be selling individual tickets until Saturday 30th June for £7 adults £5 OAPs, with on the day prices at £8 adults, £6 OAPs and £2 children.
There has also been good news on the playing front ahead of the new season. Town had signed two new players; goalkeeper Kyle Phillips has joined the Black and Yellow family from nearby neighbours Frome, and Ross Lye returns to the club, after leaving after the 2016/17 season. There will also be a new addition to the coaching team, in Andy Gilbert.
Loyalty is also shown from current team players as big names such as golden boot winner from last season Gary Higdon, Mark Cooper, Ben Thompson, Rob Hobbs, Ollie Webb, Jake Brown and Jamie Lyons have all committed to the club for the 2018/19 season.
Pressure is also on for the youth team graduates as Seth Wain, Rhys Talmash and Sam Townsend are all promoted to the first team squad for pre-season, to show that they have the skills to play amongst the senior first team in the new territory of the Southern League.
With the club being promoted to the Southern League last season, they are looking for more voluntary work either on match days or during the week.
