BROOKSIDE Care Home held its annual ‘Living Nativity’ in the town last weekend which saw Mary and Joseph, a donkey, shepherds, angels and Kings riding camels, process through the town.
The special Christmas event organised and run by Brookside, Order of St John Care Trust’s care home in Melksham, raises funds for Dementia UK. This year ££237.64 was raised, which will be added to the money the care home has raised throughout the year. The total will be divided between the Alzheimer’s Society and Dementia UK.
Lyn Rendell from Brookside said, “Both charities are available to help us, our residents and their families who may be ‘living well with dementia’. Events like the Living Nativity help us to ensure our residents remain part of their community.”
Mayor of Melksham, councillor Terri Welch said, “The event was a very good example of people working together, people of all ages and different faiths.
“Congratulations must go to the staff at Brookside for the good organisation, it was great to see some of the residents in their wheelchairs, all wrapped up against the cold; children dressed as angels and shepherds having a good time. The carol concert with readings was very simple and enjoyed by everybody. A very inclusive, well organised event.”
