Melksham Police are inviting families to a community event that will bring together a range of local agencies and organisations to highlight the support available to the community.
The event will take place on Friday 29th November at the Assembly Hall from 6pm to 8pm.
Among the organisations attending will be representatives from Melksham Town Football Club, 4 Stars dance group, 4Youth, TeenTalk, and Snap Fitness, in addition to the local policing team. The police will be offering advice, prevention leaflets, merchandise, and bike marking services.
The event will also feature the Neighbourhood Harm Reduction Unit, who will be bringing their popular beer goggles experience. The goggles simulate the effects of alcohol, allowing young people to understand how impaired vision can hinder driving ability.
Sgt Gemma Rutter, of Melksham Police, explained the aim of the event: “We’ve tried to bring as many agencies together as possible to showcase what they can do for the families of Melksham and the surrounding areas. Many families may not be aware of the services available to them in the local community, from early intervention to support for parents, carers and children. We want to make sure families know what’s out there and how it can help. Many families will never be in contact with us, so many may not know about the Police Cadet scheme we run or the signposting we can offer.”
Sgt Rutter also encouraged groups to get involved: “If you’re in catering and would like to provide refreshments for some exhausted parents, carers, and guardians, or if you offer apprenticeships to young adults, we’d love to hear from you.”
The event promises to be a great opportunity for families to find out more about local support services, and for community groups to showcase what they do. The police are calling on anyone who works with the community to get in touch and participate.
