Family gets walking to say thanks to children’s special needs centre

A MELKSHAM family is raising money for a specialist centre for children with special needs to say thank you for the support they have given their two-year old daughter. 

Vicky and Scott Daly’s daughter, Layla, was born prematurely at 26 weeks – she lives with global development delay, mobility issues, and is on the autism spectrum. 

The family have received the support from Stepping Stones, a district specialist centre for children who have special needs. The centre is attempting to raise £40,000 to pay for a makeover of its garden to give the children at the centre greater access to outdoor learning and play experiences. 

To support the fundraiser, the Daly family set themselves the challenge of walking a total of 40,000 steps in two days – but they went quite a few steps further, walking almost double their target, completing a total of 74,367 steps. 

So far they have raised £250 for Stepping Stones’ garden makeover, and now they are hoping to double this, just like they did their steps! 

“We would like to raise as much as possible,” said Layla’s mother, Vicky. “Without Stepping Stones I don’t know where we’d be – even through lockdown when we were shielding for a year, they still supported us. They provided ‘Zoom nursery’ – activities streamed over the internet, so Layla could join in with her class friends. 

“From start to finish they have supported Layla, even giving support for me as a parent. 

“I want to say a massive thank you to everyone that has supported us, it means a lot, not just to us but to Stepping Stones too. But let’s see if we can now double our donations. Please help us raise vital funds for Stepping Stones.
