Local organisations who help people in need have come together to produce a manual, ‘Finance, Food, Friendship.’ The manual will help the volunteers who are advising people facing these problems, giving information and signposting where help can be found.
The manual has been produced with the cooperation of Melksham Foodbank, Melksham Lifeline, Hope Debt, Citizens Advice Bureau and Wiltshire and Swindon Credit Union.
The groups say, “ When people get hit by these problems it is often easiest to try and find support nearby. Local volunteers are therefore often the front line for those needing a helpful and sympathetic ear.
“With the current uncertain economic climate, local redundancies, and the roll-out of Universal Credit, the need for this help is acute.
“There are several groups and organisations in the Melksham area offering finance-related advice and support. No one organisation provides a comprehensive service and volunteers lack of awareness of the role and existence of other groups hampers delivery of effective and coordinated local services.”
