THE number of trains serving Melksham Railway Station increased in December and now there are more projects and plans to improve the service and facilities. Everyone is welcome to a meeting on 28th February to find out more.
Melksham Railway Development Group said, “Melksham’s trains increased from 4 to 16 calling per day in December … calling at a minimalist station. How do people get to the station? How do people learn about the services? How do the station’s facilities cope with the extra passengers, welcome them, and encourage them to keep using the train?
“No fewer than 16 linked projects are improving Melksham Station in the current six-month period. Better information systems, better shelter, more parking, ticket sales, bus links direct to the station from Bowerhill and East Melksham, and much more.
“Come along to the Melksham Railway Development Group at 7.30pm on Friday 28th February at Melksham Town Hall (use the new bus connection off the 7.17 train arrival!) to learn about these plans from people who have been deeply involved, and (at this stage) you may be able to add some of your suggestions too.
“Melksham Railway Development Group is a group of local people working to improve the station for the good of the locals and visitors using the station and is working in partnership with First Great Western, Wiltshire Council, Melksham Town Council and TransWilts Community Rail Partnership.”
