The owner of a local fish and chip shop has reassured customers that they can still park outside her business, after many were hit with parking fines while collecting their orders—despite the first 90 minutes being free.
Karen Lee, who runs Lee’s Fish and Chips on Granville Road, said that customers using the spaces outside her shop had been receiving fines, with one elderly customer reportedly receiving up to six. She believes this has deterred people from visiting, impacting her trade.
“My business is suffering,” said Karen. “We want to make it clear that Lee’s is not responsible for these fines. We have done everything we can to help anyone who has come to us, scared and angry, after being unfairly charged.
“The other businesses weren’t affected, but the car park camera was directly facing my shop, and all the tickets seemed to come from the parking spaces right outside. This is my livelihood, and it was being seriously affected.”
Melksham News contacted the company managing the car park, Creative Car Park, to ask why fines had been repeatedly issued.
A spokesperson for Creative Car Park said, “It was identified that parking charges were issued in error due to an anomaly in the site configuration. This error has now been rectified to ensure the system operates as intended going forward.
“We can also confirm that all parking charges have been reviewed and any issued in error have been cancelled. All affected motorists will be contacted with an apology and confirmation of the cancellation of their fines. Our priority is to maintain a positive experience for all car park users.”
