A UNIQUE opportunity to enjoy live music on a ‘Folk Train’ from Melksham will take place next week.
For the first time on the TransWilts line a train with live entertainment, music and food will take place. It will run on Sunday 14th December from Westbury to Swindon and back via Melksham.
The train, which will be running with two coaches, will feature folk musicians Emily Jones and Angeline Morrison who will entertain passengers.
Passengers are welcome to join the ‘Folk Train’ at Trowbridge (17:26) and Melksham (17:36). Return gets to Westbury at 19:12 (Trowbridge 19:06, Melksham 18:50).
Graham Ellis from the TransWilts Community Rail Partnership said, “It’s the very first on this line – though it has been done by community rail partnerships in other parts of the country.
“We’re looking with the Westbury to Swindon line via Melksham to make people aware of the trains, and to encourage people to use them. Until last December, trains were few and far between; persuading people to use the train was hard work, and there were few opportunities for making special trips to encourage people.
“Now with extra trains for a three-year trial, we’re wanting to encourage as wide a use and exposure as possible – getting people to come along on a folk music train may persuade them to use it again at other times. And it’s going to be fun and a great trip too!”
Tickets for the ‘Folk Train’ cost £10 and includes music, travel, mince pies and soft drinks.
Tickets can be booked by emailing Phil McMullen on twcrp@ mail.com or in person at the Melksham Tourist Information Centre.
