THE president of Melksham Town Football Club is celebrating after winning the county’s Outstanding Personal Achievement award.
Michael Perrin, who is joint club president with David Philips, said he is chuffed and honoured to receive the accolade.
He said, “I am chuffed, Melksham Town Football Club has been my life and I am honoured to win the award.
Michael Perrin has been associated with the club for almost 60 years, first as a player at the age of 16, then in different volunteer roles.
“I started playing when I was 16-years-old and managed to get into the First Team, going on to play for Wiltshire,” he continued,
“Then I became club secretary at the age of 36, where I remained for 15 years, then 15 years as chairman of the club.”
In 2015 Michael stood down as chair, and was made joint club president in 2016, with David Philips, positions they still hold.
He added, “To me it is all about Melksham Town. There have been a lot of great people to do with the club who deserve congratulating, for bringing the club through.
“Including presidents, secretaries – the easiest thing about football is playing; the hardest is being in administration.
“Players get to enjoy what they do; administration have good times, but also must deal with tough times and financial upsets – people don’t understand.
“The people I have met through football have been brilliant, it has been incredible.”
