A FORMER High Street shop owner has turned author, and is celebrating the release of her first children’s book, ‘Monty the Magical Magpie – The First Journey’.
Sue Tweedie, who owned Upper Cut Clothing on the High Street until it closed in 2016 has written a book about Monty, a talking magical magpie who takes a young girl, Mellie Jo, on a journey into nature. The pair venture into the woods, exploring the world of the mole underground.
About the inspiration behind the story, Sue explained, “I would make up bedtime stories for my children about a magical magpie that would take them wherever they wanted to go. This began over 30 years ago from when my children were about two years old.
“I now tell the same stories to my four-year old granddaughter. I also have a grandson who is two-weeks old – when he is old enough I will tell him the same stories, that’s if he wants me to!
“I hope that ‘Monty the Magical Magpie – The First Journey’ will inspire children to explore and love the natural world around them and to encourage and stretch the imagination into a world where anything is possible.
“The book has been out for four weeks and the reaction has been fantastic. I’m really pleased – I’ve been to school fairs and held book signings at Leekes.
“The illustrations are fabulous – they were done by a friend who really captured the essence of what the book is about.”
Sue, who describes herself as passionate about wildlife, will be donating a portion of every sale of her book to Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, who she works for in their membership team.
