TWO Melksham friends have completed an epic charity walk, raising over £500 for the RUH Forever Friends appeal.
The pair, Julie Lavery and Jacqui Piper, took part in the annual RUH Forever Friends Walk of Life, walking 26.2 miles along the Kennet and Avon Canal.
Julie said, “We started the Forever Friends Appeal’s Walk For Life at Bishops Cannings. We walked the 26.2 Miles along the canal to the Holbourne Museum in Bath, breaking at Bradford on Avon for lunch.
“We kept a good pace going throughout and it took us 8 hours, 53 minutes to complete. Jacqui is an experienced rambler; I am a dog walker and did a few 8 mile hikes in preparation.
“Between us we have raised £540 with donations still coming in on our Walk For Life accounts. A very big thank you to all of the organisers and volunteers that manned the ‘Goodness Stops’ for making this day possible.
“There were around 200 people who took part in the Friends Walk of Life event, some walking 10 miles, they started from Bradford. Families, friends, people with dogs, all took part, and at the end we were greeted with claps, stopping for a photo, collecting our medals, and then a well-earned cake and a sit down.”
