The ‘Melksham Bloomers’ have once again teamed up with students from Lackham College for a new project this year.
The SW in Bloom Melksham group says, “Last year, students from Lackham received an ‘outstanding’ award from RHS Southwest in Bloom for their work on restoring part of the Millennium Walk along the River Avon. They have now joined the Bloom Team again to help with the restoration of the garden behind the former spiritualist church on King Street.
“The garden of the old ‘Friends Meeting Place’ and burial site of Rachel Fowler, has been renamed ‘The Friends Garden’ and the plan is to transform it into a sensory garden for all to enjoy.
Work began at the beginning of January by planning the new look, erecting a pergola (funded by grant money), planting climbing roses and clearing out dead shrubs; but more help is desperately needed to help complete the main stages of this project by July.
“Physical help, in the form of gardening, woodwork, grass cutting, painting etc. donations of suitable plants and also sponsorship to enable us to obtain a storage shed, picnic benches, tools and a lawn mower would be very welcome. We would also welcome individuals who would like to sponsor a rose, shrub or tree in memory of a lost loved one.
“If you think you are able to offer any of the help above, please contact
Kathy Iles, chair of ‘SW in Bloom – Melksham’ by emailing kathyiles.melkshamtown@gmail.com or leave a message at the Town Hall on 01225 794187.”
