Groups and charities in Melksham have been awarded a total of nearly £4,000 in the latest round of grants by Melksham Town Council.
The grants were approved during a recent meeting of the council’s Finance, Administration and Performance Committee.
Five organisations were awarded a total of £530.87 each. These were:
• Celebrating Age Wiltshire, to fund summer and autumn workshops, including t-shirt printing for Melksham Men’s group and a social concert for residents of Melksham, with an emphasis on older, isolated residents.
• Group Five, a charity that supports people with household goods, to fund the maintenance and running of their van and the general costs of operating the charity.
• Melksham Riverside Centre, to purchase two new domestic cookers for cookery demonstrations, replacing a gas cooker.
• ‘that meeting space’, to help the administrators, GoodNews Church, support new community groups.
• Wiltshire Search and Rescue, to purchase a new generator to power their command unit.
Other grants included:
• Melksham Amateur Swimming Club, which was awarded £325 for a new level one and two swimming teacher.
• Melksham Lions Club, which was awarded £281.63 to go towards refurbishing their Christmas sleigh, including woodwork repairs, new paint, and electrical repairs.
• Melksham Gardeners’ Society, which was awarded £273 to help pay the rent on the Assembly Hall for their annual Flower and Produce Show.
• Wiltshire Mind, which was awarded £250 to help fund adult counselling sessions.
• The Wilts & Berks Canal Trust, which was awarded £216 to hire the Assembly Hall for the charity’s annual Ale, Cider, and Sausage Festival.
The next round of grant applications is now open and will close on Friday 23rd August, to be heard by the Finance, Administration and Performance Committee on Monday 9th September.
