INDEPENDENT Councillor for Melksham Without North, Terry Chivers, has put questions down to the next meeting of Wiltshire Council.
He is asking if the council have lost money charging for parking at Melksham House which is to be the site for the new campus in Melksham.
In a question to the deputy leader of Wiltshire Council, John Thompson, Terry has asked, ‘How much did it cost to install, and how much will it cost to remove the parking ticket machines at Melksham House, and how much income have they made for the council? Terry said, “I may well be wrong but I just can’t see how Wiltshire Council have made any money out of charging parking on this site. Taking into account you have to provide and install the machines, and then they have to run an electric supply to them.
“Staff working at Melksham House rightly park free, which just leaves those who use Melksham House, and the football and rugby clubs. I understand that its £2.00 per day to park, but if you make a purchase in Melksham House you get a rebate of £1.50, so that knocks it back to 50p per day.
“I just can’t see how they have even broken even, and maybe they should have just allowed free parking on the site until the work on the campus started.”
