MELKSHAM’S Enigma Twirlers fear they may not perform in this year’s carnival circuit, due to their team trailer needing urgent repairs, and are asking for funds to buy a new one.
Enigma Twirlers, set up in 2011, are a group of baton twirlers, ranging from four years and up, who perform in local competitions and carnivals throughout the South West.
Founder of Enigma, Tanya Denning-Kuijper said, “Enigma are in desperate need to raise enough funds to get them out on the road for the 2019 carnival season. Our team trailer made its last journey in 2018 and broke on the return from Shepton Mallet carnival. We now need to raise enough funds to purchase a new and stronger one for the coming years.
“The main towing arm on our trailer snapped, we had a blow out on two of the tyres, with the chassis ending up buckled. This is a huge upset to the team as carnivals are enjoyed so much by everyone and being able to perform and let off steam from the competition season is vital for the team’s morale.
“Carnivals bring so much joy and happiness to the troupe and pulls them together in a way that cannot be described, it’s just a feeling you can only experience and other fellow ‘carnivalites’ can understand. The power of carnival truly is magic! We have set up a Go Fund Me page and will be putting on various fundraising activities over the coming months. Our deadline to raise £2,000 is the beginning of April as we need the time to build, fix in all electrical equipment and test all before our first carnival in June. Please dig deep and help get this team on the road once again performing for everyone’s enjoyment.”
