Holt Dramatic Society presents: ‘The School for Scandal’ – by Richard Brinsley Sheridan – Directed by Dominic O’Connor on Thursday 8th to Saturday 10th May.
The society will be presenting this major production in Holt Village Hall, both performances commencing at 7.30 pm. This is a well-known play that has been performed numerous times since it was first performed at Drury Lane in 1777.
‘The School For Scandal’ – Long time bachelor, Sir Peter Teazle, has married the woman he adores. Unfortunately she may adore his fortune more! While the husband and wife navigate the tangles of married life, gossip and intrigue are the order of the day. Lady Sneerwell and her cadre of associates, including the notorious Mrs Candour, amuse themselves by attacking the reputations of friends and acquaintances.
Meanwhile, two fashionable (and eligible) young brothers, Joseph and Charles Surface, are caught in the middle of money problems, a lovely young heiress and the disparity between appearances and true character.
This is an amusing and enjoyable play with a large cast. Dominic O’Connor is making his debut as a director and Thérèse Underwood is the experienced producer.
