Holt Dramatic Society will be presenting the well loved pantomime ‘Hansel and Gretel’ from Thursday 19th – Sunday 22nd February in Holt Village Hall,
Director of the production, Dee Hughes said, “This Pantomime is adapted from the rather grim but famous fairy story by the Brothers Grimm.
“I have kept the ‘Grimness’ to a minimum and put in plenty of laughs to lighten the story, which is about two children, Hansel and Gretel, who are deliberately lured by two villains into the forest at the behest of their stepmother.
“The children are befriended by animals of the forest and kept safe with the help of a kind fairy. They find a gingerbread house hidden away in the forest, the home of a nasty witch. As they are very hungry they start to nibble the house, when the witch catches them and lures them into her home with the promise of cakes and biscuits.
“The children follow her into the house where they are asked to make gingerbread, but the wicked witch has other plans. She wants to turn them into gingerbread for her store cupboard. They are rescued in the nick of time by the residents of their village Holtstein.
All the laughs are provided by the dame who runs the local school, and the two hapless villains Bodgit & Bungle, the local builders. There is of course all the usual ingredients of a traditional panto; the lovers, the comics, the dame and the villains, as well as songs, dances and fun! So come along join in the fun.”
