Scarecrows will be on display in Holt this month as the 13th annual scarecrow trail in aid of Dorothy House Hospice Care returns.
Around 58 scarecrows will be placed around the village from 23rd to 27th August. The main theme is Famous Duos and the children’s theme is Noah’s Ark.
“Huge thanks to each and every one of you who are making a scarecrow, as this community event wouldn’t happen without scarecrows,” said one of the organisers, Lisa.
“We will have an extra challenge for children to keep them entertained while looking at the main trail scarecrows too – an animal pairing spelt out with hidden letters at 15 of the main trail scarecrows,” she added.
Booklets for the Famous Duos trail cost £5, and the Noah’s Ark themed trail booklets cost £2.
Lisa said, “All trail booklets will be on sale from Monday 18th August at Holt Superstore and Wild Herb. Thanks go to Harry at the shop, Sian at Wild Herb and Alix at the Glove Factory Studios. Glove Factory Studios will also be opening up all their car parks for use, as well as their toilet facilities.”
Prizes currently include vouchers from Five Zeroes, The Old Ham Tree, The Tollgate, Old Milestone Nursery, Merkins, By the Way, Atwell Motor Museum, Lacock Dairy, Black Swan Sauna, Mr B’s Emporium of Delights and many more.
The trail will be raising funds for Dorothy House Hospice Care. “Many people in Holt know a friend or family member who has received amazing care at Dorothy House,” said Lisa. “Fifty per cent of funds raised will go to Dorothy House Hospice Care, and 50% will go to our village amenities and good causes.”
Food and refreshments will also be available during the trail. The Old Ham Tree, The Tollgate Inn and Wild Herb will be open as usual. St Katharine’s monthly cake sale and raffle will take place on Saturday 23rd August from 10am to 12pm, with all proceeds going towards the trail. The Village Hall BBQ will run from 11.30am to 1.30pm on 23rd, 24th and 25th August (weather permitting).
United Reformed Church refreshments will be available on the 25th from 2pm to 5pm, and Wild Herb will also host a special BBQ event from 10am to 4pm on 25th August.
Lisa said, “Huge thanks to our advertisers, many of whom have taken out our extra sponsorship option on our website: AP Servicing, Formosa, Glove Factory Studios, Holt Dog Park, Melksham Blinds, Design & Décor, Emily Chesterton Photography, Black Swan Sauna, Mr B’s Emporium of Delights, Old Ham Tree, Tollgate, Wild Herb, and our main sponsor, Crescent Mortgages.”
“Holt Pre-School will be selling ice lollies and Lacock Dairy ice cream (mini tubs) over the Bank Holiday weekend – there is no access through the school car park though.
“Tell your friends and family about the Holt Scarecrow Trail. It will be well worth it.”
