LOCAL Man, Paul Biggin, has won £1,000 in the Places for People ‘10 workout challenge’ for January-February, a national campaign to encourage people to move more and get active.
The Places Locker app was launched in 2017 with the aim to support people to move more and get active. It promotes new workouts, offers challenges to aid motivation and enables quick access to online bookings. The app also pairs with a range of exercise ‘wearables’ so you can track just how active you are.
The January-February winner was Paul Biggin, a regular member of Melksham Blue Pool, who visits the gym four times a week and the swimming pool once a week.
He said, “I’m chuffed! I thought it was a spam email when I was first sent the news so had to re-read it. I didn’t realise it was a national competition, so it’s great to win. I’m going to spend some of the money on a new pair of trainers and some new shorts.
“My fitness has increased since I’ve joined the gym again and I’ve lost over two stone. I also had a heart attack two years ago, so it has helped me on my recovery and got me back into working out.
“The team at Melksham Blue Pool were a big help. I first went to Abi, fitness manager and was talked through a programme and if at any point I needed help she, or Ryan, would drop what they were doing and answer any questions I had.”
Sarah Harryman, centre manager at Melksham Blue Pool said, “Paul is a great winner, his fitness journey and results have been incredible, a true testament to why we all do this job. It’s great when we see someone succeed and achieve what he has. The support that Paul has received from all of the staff has obviously encouraged him in his pursuit of a healthier, fitter lifestyle. A truly worthy winner.”
