MELKSHAM News is now officially Wiltshire’s biggest circulating newspaper!
Our 13,700+ circulation now outstrips all the other newspapers in the county and is now nearly double the sales of the Wiltshire Times.
Annual sales figures for local newspapers were released last week, showing significant falls for the sales of Wiltshire Times, Gazette and Herald, Swindon Advertiser and Salisbury Journal.
Melksham News now outstrips them all. The latest figures are:
• Melksham News – 13,700
• Wiltshire Times – 7,085 (average sales Jan-Dec 2017 – down 8% year-on-year)
• Gazette & Herald – 10,540 (down 9% year-on-year)
• Salisbury Journal – 12,904 (down 7% year-on-year)
• Swindon Advertiser – 8,828 (down 8% year-on-year).
“It’s fantastic news to be Wiltshire’s biggest circulating newspaper,” said editor Ian Drew. “We have a pretty unique combination – a newspaper packed full of local news and distributed into every door in the town and surrounding villages.
“We get fantastic support from all our advertisers who have supported the paper for the past 37 years. And the readers love our unrivalled news coverage, our positive outlook and the role we play in the local community.
“We are a true local newspaper, owned by local people who grew up in the town, which is in stark contrast to most other ‘local’ newspapers these days which are owned by large national publishing companies; the Wiltshire Times and Gazette & Herald for instance, are owned by Newsquest, an American company.
“We employ a great team of local people, who all grew up in the area and live here too.”
