Melksham Carnival returns this today with a lively procession full of music, dancing and surprises, set to bring the town’s streets to life.
The colourful procession will start and finish at Church Street car park from 6pm on Saturday 5th July, and will feature large lorry floats, tractors, carnival royalty, dance groups and live music weaving through the streets of Melksham.
With over 30 people and groups already signed up to take part – along with two large bands – the carnival committee says it’s an event ‘not to be missed’ and is encouraging residents to come out, spectate and join the celebrations.
Much-loved carnival favourites, the majorettes, will also be returning to the procession. Organisers say the group truly ‘represents the spirit of carnival.’
The Top Hat Riders will once again roar through the town on their motorcycles, dressed in quirky costumes. Last year, the group paused for photos and even let spectators sit on the bikes.
“Our royalty, sponsors and entrants can’t wait to show you what Melksham has to offer,” said the carnival team.
“The route will mirror last year, with the slight change of Church Street car park being the start and finish point.”
To ensure the safety of all participants and spectators, road closures will be in place from 5.30pm and lifted by 9pm at the latest
