LOCAL woman, Janine LaBorde, joined fundraisers across the country last month, to raise money for homeless charity, Shelter.
Throughout May, Janine had to complete at least 100 squats a day – her fundraising target was £100, but she has so far raised £150.
Janine was inspired to raise money for Shelter -which campaigns to end homelessness and bad housing in the UK – because of a friendship she struck up with a homeless woman whilst working in Bath.
“She really touched my heart,” said Janine. “Over lunch one day she told me her story and it broke my heart – she had children but had to run away from a domestic violent relationship. She was running for her life and came to Bath, to get as far as way as possible.
“She applied to the council for housing and they wouldn’t house her – and when I met her it was 10 years on, and they still wouldn’t house her, which I thought was appalling.”
About her ‘100 squats a day in May’ challenge, Janine said, “At first, I hated the stairs, I had to go up them backwards! I was in agony, my knees swelled up.
“But I ploughed through and I’m now doing all different types of squats! It’s hugely benefited by health as well – I feel more invigorated, stronger.”
