SHOPPERSin Melksham have a new way to support a good cause while grabbing a bargain, as Julian House opened its latest charity shop in Melksham town centre last week.
The shop, located at 18-20 Bank Street, offers an array of high-quality second-hand clothing, accessories, books and homeware at affordable prices, giving customers the chance to embrace sustainable shopping while supporting vital community services. It is the charity’s sixth shop.
Gemma Turner, head of retail at Julian House, expressed excitement about the new store, saying, “The money raised supports Julian House to provide life-changing and life-saving services to vulnerable individuals who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. We will keep trying to raise funds for our amazing charity whilst offering great customer service and a chance to source great quality clothes at a fraction of the high street cost so we are really excited to introduce Julian House to a new audience. Donations raised by Melksham shoppers will support the services that operate across the county. Julian House supports people who are homeless, or recovering from homelessness, with a variety of needs; those recovering from addiction; adults and children escaping domestic abuse and refugees building a new life and more. In Wiltshire alone, the charity assists vulnerable individuals and families across a range of critical services. Charity shops are growing in popularity as the circular nature of second-hand shopping presents itself as an ethical and easy alternative to fast fashion and throwaway culture. In the last year, shoppers at Julian House saved 56 tonnes of clothes from landfill with consumers both donating and purchasing products.”
