THE Leg Ulcer Clinic and Wellbeing Club has been open to the public since April this year and is proving to be a great success.
Formerly run under the name of the Lindsay Leg Club, the Leg Ulcer Clinic and Wellbeing Club has been supporting an average of 22 people every Thursday morning at Spencer’s Sports and Social Club.
The clinic provides medical help and social meetings for people with lower leg problems. Members are able to receive treatment from NHS nurses and then spend social time with other members and friends.
Project manager Amanda Brookes said, “The clinic is going very well. We have a balanced attendance from all three Melksham surgeries and some patients coming across from Bradford on Avon.
“We have four volunteers who provide the refreshments and chat to patients while they are waiting.”
The clinic now also offers a foot care practitioner who attends by appointment to treat patients’ feet and the health trainers have set up a drop-in session twice a month to help people promote healthy lifestyles
The services available at Spencer’s Sports and Social Club continue to grow with the Falls Clinic moving from Melksham Hospital to the club. There will also soon be a drop-in Carers Café once a month, which is being organised by the Spa Surgery Patients Participation Group.
No appointment is necessary to attend the Leg Ulcer Clinic, you can drop-in and wait to be seen every Thursday from 9am until 11.30am at Spencer’s Sports and Social Club.
