FIREFIGHTERS were called to Melksham during the recent stormy weather after a lightning strike caused a fire at Giffords Court.
The severe storm which swept across the area recently led to over 30 incidents and 100 calls in one night alone including a lightning strike in Melksham. Fire crews from Trowbridge attended Giffords Court after the fire alarm system was triggered due to the strike. The crew carried out a full investigation of the building, having been advised that there had been a lightning strike, and found that there had been a small fire in a alarm panel. The fire hadn’t spread and was already out, but firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to ensure that there was no heat spread or fire risk in the area.
