Three Melksham organisations have received a share of £2,000 from Melksham Lions Club to support their work in the town.
Members of the Melksham Lions presented the cheques during a meeting on Monday 8th September.
Melksham and Corsham Gateway Club received £500, which will go towards its Christmas party and events next year. The club supports people with learning disabilities and has recently moved from Melksham Baptist Church to the Canberra Centre.
Melksham Scout Group also received £500, which will go towards the cost of replacing its heating system after the previous system broke down in March.
Group member Stuart Wright said, “This has been replaced at the cost of £12,500, so this will go towards that and is gratefully received.”
Melksham Area Community Transport received £1,000 towards a new bus.
Chair David Hogg said, “It’s going towards our grand total of £50,000 to replace an ageing bus, and we’re about halfway there now. And more importantly, this helps our advertising campaign. So, thanks very much to the Lions.”
Melksham Lions is now planning its Christmas events around the streets of Melksham and is looking for volunteers to help for a couple of hours in December.
