A Melksham care home transformed its gardens into a scene from Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory last weekend, as residents, families and friends from the local community had an afternoon of music, sweet treats and summer sunshine.
Blenheim House, part of the Berkley Care Group, hosted the Willy Wonka Garden Party as the culmination of a week-long programme of chocolate-themed activities for residents.
In the days leading up to the celebration, residents took part in chocolate workshops, making their own truffles and handmade sweets, as well as decorating colourful displays to bring a sense of magic to the home.
The party itself welcomed more than 100 guests, including relatives and neighbours from the wider community.
Families gathered in the gardens to enjoy the entertainment; children were delighted with the whimsical theme and residents took pride in showing off their creations from the week’s workshops.

Entertainment came from the Bratton Brass Community Band, whose lively medley of tunes set the perfect soundtrack for the occasion. Guests waved along to the music, with many residents clapping, tapping their feet and joining in with the familiar favourites.
Chris Preston, Events Manager at Blenheim House, said, “Sweet treats were in plentiful supply thanks to a generous donation from Krispy Kreme, who provided a delicious selection of their iconic doughnuts. Guests also tucked into handmade chocolates prepared by residents earlier in the week, as well as a wide selection of sweets and colourful themed drinks.
“The event also served as a reminder of the important role the home plays in its community. Local friends and families came together alongside residents for an afternoon of shared laughter, storytelling, and connection, bringing people of all ages together in celebration.
For many, the highlight was the chance to come together with family and friends in such a light-hearted and joyful setting.”
Resident Audrey Senior said, “The Willy Wonka Tea Party afternoon was a super afternoon – I enjoyed it immensely.”
Chris added, “It was a truly special afternoon. Seeing our residents, their families, and members of the local community enjoying the sunshine, music, and doughnuts was wonderful.
“We are so grateful to Bratton Brass for their fantastic performance and to Krispy Kreme for supporting us and making the day even sweeter.”
