A LOCAL girl is donating her hair to charity to help raise money for her friend who needs a new wheelchair.
Eight-year-old Mia Mclaren is raising money for her friend, five-year-old Mya Macey-Plested who needs a special wheelchair.
Mya was born at 28 weeks with a spinal cord injury, leaving her an incomplete tetraplegic which affects her arms and legs. She is unable to walk and uses a wheelchair; however she is rapidly outgrowing her current wheelchair and will soon need a replacement.
To help raise the £7,000 needed for the new wheelchair, generous Mia is asking people to sponsor her as she prepares to have 10 inches of her hair cut off to give to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides real hair wigs to children that have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment or other illnesses.
“Mia is having her hair cut at The Base in Bowerhill. It’s a very big thing for her to do as she loves her long hair, and so do all her friends,” said Mia’s mother Nicola Mclaren.
“She’s raising money and splitting the donations between the Little Princess Trust and Keep Mya Moving.”
