A MELKSHAM singer and songwriter has released her own Christmas song on iTunes.
Sylvia Novak has high hopes that her festive tune, ‘You Make Me Like Christmas’, will become a Christmas classic, but she also hopes to share a special message with those in the world who struggle at this time of year.
Sylvia told Melksham News, “The reality – as most people know – is that for many people, and for many reasons, Christmas can be a difficult or sad time. The pain of losing someone you love is amplified at Christmas. I lost my mother at Christmas 2012 and I am still grieving her loss. My father died in 2005 and my partner died in 2008.
“In my song ‘You Make Me Like Christmas’ what happens is, one Christmas, the girl who doesn’t like Christmas falls in love! And suddenly she can see the appeal of Christmas for an adult and starts enjoying it for the first time.
“Unfortunately, the romance doesn’t last. But by then, it doesn’t matter because she’s written a Christmas song inspired by falling in love which becomes a hit – her wildest dream has come true! It’s my fantasy.
“So although my song taps into feelings of negativity at Christmas – of not liking or needing Christmas – it turns into a song ultimately about dreams coming true.
“It’s full of hope and I think it could cheer people up going through tough times, struggling and experiencing hardship of all kinds, giving them hope that things will get better.
“I wrote my Christmas song to give myself hope, so it has a really deeply-felt positive message: Don’t give up and don’t give up on your dreams, whatever they might be!
“It would be great, therefore, if it became a hit and reached as many people who are dejected in some way as possible.”
In the build-up to Christmas, Sylvia will be promoting her song at various gigs, including a special performance for the residents of Giffords Court, Lowbourne, where she hopes to bring them some festive cheer.
