LOCAL man Scott Lloyd has returned from the Blackball International World Championships with a gold and bronze medal.
Scott, who is the captain of the Special Needs England Pool team, won gold in the doubles final with his partner Gagz Dogra and bronze with the England team at the championships held in Killarney in October.
Scott said, “I’m absolutely delighted with the results, I still can’t believe it.”
Scott, who has multiple sclerosis (MS) said, “I joined the Foresters Arms pub pool team in 2010 to get me out of the house and socialise. From there, I started playing and got a callup for England and now I’m captain.
“It’s very hard work and I’m often exhausted after playing. I have to rest in between matches because I’m so tired. But it doesn’t stop me playing. The social element of pool is what I love the most. You get to meet so many people from all over the world.
“I would tell anyone who has any type of disability to join the team. We are all inclusive, whatever your disability, whether you have learning difficulties or a physical disability. It’s a great way of staying active and it gets you out of the house.
“We have the European Championships in Bridlington in April and I hope to do better in the singles tournament than this year. I lost in the quarter finals which I was disappointed about, but I’ve got a few months to practise and get ready.
“I’d like to say thanks to the Foresters Arms for opening early to live stream the championships for people to come and watch. There was quite a crowd there, so we are grateful for the support.”
