SCHOOLS across Melksham took part in raising funds for Children in Need this year, with Pudsey and BBC Radio Wiltshire paying a special visit to the Aloeric and Bowerhill Primary schools.
Across town pupils dressed up in the colour yellow, spotty clothing and Pudsey ears to raise money that will be used to help children all over the UK who need it the most to thrive and be the best they can be.
Both the Aloeric and Bowerhill primary schools were interviewed on BBC Radio Wiltshire about their efforts to support Children in Need.
Principal of the Bowerhill, Chris Light, said, “The children were all incredibly excited to meet Pudsey and be involved. There were a lot of high fives and hugs with Pudsey and it was nice to do something a bit different to the normal school day. We raised over £300 for the Melksham Foodbank as well.
“The children are really conscious of the cost-of- living crisis and it’s something we have talked a lot about. We had an assembly earlier in the week where we talked about Children in Need, where the money goes and disadvantaged children around the UK and around the world. It’s a fantastic cause and the children are really excited to take part.”
Being interviewed on Friday 18th November by BBC Radio Wiltshire one pupil, Romeo, said, “Today we have had an assembly about Children in Need and are doing lots of Pudsey activities across the school like art and climate bits.”
Another pupil, Erin, said, “We are reminding everybody to remember that all children deserve a safe childhood with warm homes, food and love. We’re wearing our own school uniform with Pudsey spots and ears.”
Headteacher of the Aloeric School Rebecca Clifton said, “The children are really excited to see Pudsey, we’ve got lots of children dressed up, lots of activities, it’s the important message the children have been thinking about today. We’re a rights ambassador school, our rights ambassadors have been thinking about that every child has the right to education, to a childhood and we’ve been thinking about mental health activities across the school and how we can enable the children to have a happy, healthy childhood as well.
“They are so proud to be supporting lots of different charities across our country and locally as well.”
