A website by two local students, that compares the price of fuel at Melksham’s petrol stations, continues to grow.
Nathan Singer and Adam Gentle, both from Melksham, have set up www.melkshamfuel.com which provides a quick reference for petrol prices across the town.
The two college students who study IT at the Chippenham Wiltshire College campus, launched the website earlier this year and have recently added prices for other neighbouring towns, as well as a discussion page where users are free to comment on their vehicles’ fuel efficiency, as well as sharing their tips and tricks when it comes to saving money on fuel.
Adam said, “The average user can save quite a few pounds per fill up by looking at our site before they set off. Especially when many filling stations change their prices daily, our users can take advantage of this ‘cut price’ fuel. We have also acted upon feedback from users and feel that the site offers much help to our users.
“We are also welcome to suggestions, but are trying to concentrate on being well known throughout the town as we have managed to reach around 2,500 unique people since the start seven months ago. It really is about spreading the word. The idea of the website came about when trying to think of a project we could both work on in our spare time; we’re both into IT and web design so we wanted to build a website. We started construction of the site at the beginning of January and hoped we could help the community and get local people involved. People can submit fuel prices if they appear to have been updated since we last checked. A mobile website could also be up and running soon.”
