A LOCAL woman will walk on fire in memory of her friend Nicola Robertson who grew up in Melksham
Emma Smith, aged 25 has made the brave decision to take part in The Forever Friends Appeal’s Fire Walk in memory of Nicola, who died peacefully in her sleep on Friday 15th March 2013 aged 28, just 11 months after being diagnosed with cancer.
Emma explains, “I first met Nic at work; she took me under her wing and we soon became good friends. Nic and her three children became a massive part of my life”.
Following Nic’s diagnosis in April 2011, both Nic and her mother Bev Viveash of Melksham became loyal supporters of The Forever Friends Appeal, whose RUH Cancer Care Campaign is currently over half-way to achieving its aim of raising £8.5million, which will contribute vital funds to the building of a pioneering new cancer centre at Bath’s Royal United Hospital, who provided care for Nic during her cancer treatment.
Emma says, “Nic was one of the bravest people I know and so to continue in her memory, I’m taking part in the Fire Walk to raise money for this worthy cause which will provide better facilities for cancer patients and their families at the RUH, providing a better future for others, as I know this is what Nic would have wanted”.
The appeal’s Fire Walk takes place on Sunday 15th March, which will coincidently mark the second anniversary of Nic’s passing. Emma continues, “The date of the Fire Walk is significant and is what first drew the event to my attention. I have always wanted to take part in a Fire Walk and I know Nic would find it very amusing that I am raising funds in her memory by potentially burning my feet; this is the kind of friendship we had!”
The Forever Friends Appeal’s Fire Walk will take place on Sunday 15th March at 6pm in Bath’s Alexandra Park and is being organized by Time4Change. Its founder Cliff Mann, is the most experienced firewalking instructor in Europe. The entry fee for the event is £30 and all entrants are expected to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship towards the Cancer Care Campaign.
