A NEW vets surgery opened in Melksham recently meaning your cat could now be looked after by the same team who care for Longleat’s lions.
Garston Veterinary Group, which started in Frome over 100 years ago, officially opened its newest branch in Melksham’s Verbena Court last week.
The surgery will be a base for two of Garston’s top vets, Nick Hill and Andrew Simmons. From the new branch they will be able to examine and diagnose pets, and food and accessories will be for sale.
Vet and partner at the company, Nick Hill said, “We’re looking forward to setting up our branch in Melksham. Most of our practices are further south in Wiltshire, so this will help us to reach more people in the county.
“Garston is a privately-owned local company whereas most vets in the area are bigger corporate businesses, so I think we’re bringing something new to the town.”
The company first started in 1911 and it now has vets based in Frome, Warminster, Westbury, Trowbridge and Melksham.
As well as caring for family pets and farm animals, Garston vets also have the exotic task of looking after animals living at Longleat, from tortoises and chinchillas all the way up to lions, camels and giraffes in the safari park.
Nick added, “The branch will be a consulting practice so we will be able to see pets and then if they need further treatment we’ll do it at our Trowbridge practice. We’ll have an ambulance service between the towns in case it’s necessary.”
The new surgery was officially opened on Monday 3rd April by company staff; chair of Melksham Without Parish Council, cllr Richard Wood; and Melksham town crier, Peter Dauncey.
The practice, which shares a car park with The Water Meadow pub, is now open from 8am to 6.30pm daily from Monday to Friday.
