THE TransWilts Community Rail Partnership supporting Wiltshire Council and First Great Western, will be surveying and counting passengers on all trains that serve Melksham from Saturday 11th October to Tuesday 14th October.
Graham Ellis, of the TransWilts Community Rail Partnership said, “We are currently in the first year of a three year trial which has brought us eight trains calling each way per day on their way between Swindon and Westbury (slightly fewer on Sundays).
“The information gathered over the four days will provide a platform of evidence for working out what’s right for the future, and if necessary for providing justification arguments to central government.”
Peter Blackburn, chair of Melksham Railway Development Group said, “Can we ask everyone using the train to help us to help you … by completing survey forms on each journey, even if it’s a repeat of information from a previous journey. We don’t know exactly how we’re going to need to use the data yet, but we do know that we have work ahead that will require it.”
With around 60 trains over the four day period, a large number of volunteer helpers are needed. Please contact Graham Ellis (tel: 01225 708225 / graham@twcrp.org.uk) if you can offer that help for even a few trains. Every service will have a lead person, and you’ll be briefed ahead of time too.
