GOMPELS is offering full health checks to their customers, giving them an opportunity to make changes to their lifestyle for the better.
The full health check available at the pharmacy on Bank Street, Melksham, covers blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose, weight management including a BMI check and a cardio vascular risk assessment.
“The results of the health check provides us with a starting point, so we can highlight what someone might be doing well and needs to keep doing, or raise concerns with results that are not ideal,” said pharmacy manager, Chris Glass. “ We can then have a conversation about what that person does next and offer advice and support.
“We can help look at their heart and cardio vascular system and check if there is a late risk of diabetes – and help them do something about it.
“The focus of the check is to help patients and to ensure they are on the right track for healthy living. This is a huge issue, and this is a way to help people to look after themselves better.
“We’ll look at changes someone can make to their exercise routine, diet and signpost to relaxation techniques or refer them to a GP if there are results that are concerning. It’s about finding what is right for that individual, which could be less booze, alcohol-free days, or to get moving more.
“We will also talk about smoking if necessary as we have a stop smoking service that we run here on behalf of the NHS. Referrals can be made to Wiltshire Health trainers, who are effective in helping someone get going with exercise.
“There is also time for the person to ask questions, which is often when someone will open up more about their concerns.”
The full health check costs £10 and takes 10-15 minutes. You will meet with a trained pharmacist who will explain the results and offer advice and support.
Walk-in appointments are subject to availability. You are advised to avoid food and drink (except water) 8 hours prior to the test.
