MELKSHAM’S mayor, cllr Jon Hubbard, has expressed his frustration at the length of time it is taking to reopen the Bath Road public toilets.
Councillors were told last week that despite repairs to the roof and guttering of the building now being complete and two cubicles now ‘fully functional’, the toilets will remain closed until after a deep clean has been undertaken.
It is hoped that the toilets will be opened during the week commencing 9th May.
At the meeting, cllr Hubbard explained that he had been told that the toilets would be open once the roof repairs had been completed.
“Now we need to deep clean them?” he said. “I’m just worried that every time the thing that’s holding up opening them is dealt with, there’s something else holding up opening them! When are we going to open them?”
In response, the town council’s head of operations, Hugh Davies, promised that the toilets will be open “as soon as possible”.
The town council originally announced its intention to reopen the public toilets on Bath Road in November 2018. Their plans have been met with numerous setbacks, including last year, when the toilets’ water point was tarmacked over in error.
