
THE Melksham 60+ club celebrated its 70th anniversary this month with a party at the Riverside club.
The club was formed by the Town Council in Feb/ March 1949 with the first members meeting being held on Tuesday 22nd March of that year which saw an attendance of 148 and entertainment supplied by local organisations.
This month, members attended a special party at the Riverside Club on Tuesday 12th March where a cake was cut by the group’s current longest serving member, Elsie Hackett, who joined in 1995; the club’s oldest member, Gwen Farr who was born in 1921 and it’s youngest member, Chris Joyce who was born in 1954.
