The winners of the annual Melksham Town Council Christmas Shop Window Competition have been judged, with the quality of entries this year described as “outstanding.”
Miriam Zaccarelli, town council community development officer said, “In first place was the Tile and Bathroom Centre on Bath Road, with their creative and comedic display reflecting on the challenges of 2020.
The Christmas Window Competition shield was presented by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor to Colin Meakin and Beth Walker. Beth said, ‘We’re absolutely thrilled. We decided to just go for it with the window display, and it’s great because it makes people smile!’
“Second Place was awarded to The Cobblers Bench, with Nicola Clyde’s creative display including Christmas trees covered in keys, and third place went to Revive CBD Healing, where owner Chelsea Gapper and her children had filled the window with a colourful advent calendar.
“For the charity sector, the winner was Wiltshire Mind for their window with a festive Father Christmas scene. Beverly Harris, manager said, ‘This is lovely news for the volunteers who worked so hard on it, they will be so pleased!’
“Highly commended among the many entries were Goughs Solicitors for their ‘Stars of 2020’ display, Toy Planet for their inventive Star Wars themed window, AJB Funeral Directors with a delicate wintery scene, King Street Curios for their incredibly colourful and detailed windows, and Belle of the Ball Bridals for a beautiful snowy scene with swans and cygnets.
“The Mayor, Pat Aves, and Deputy Mayor Geoff Mitcham, were delighted to be judges of the many colourful windows.”
The mayor said, “It was really tough to choose the winners, we had to go back for a second look. There was a very good standard and it was wonderful to see our local business owners keeping cheerful with a positive outlook in Melksham, even after a difficult year.
“We want to encourage everyone to support our lovely local businesses as much as we can, as they are doing such a wonderful job to continue to provide great service for everyone in Melksham.”
