A Melksham couple are working hard to raise funds to take part in a trek to Peru in support of the local hospice, Dorothy House.
Liza Pinching and her husband, David, aim to raise £12,000 to fund the trek in April 2026. The funds raised will go to Dorothy House, where Liza works, to provide vital support for the hospice’s palliative and end-of-life care, as well as bereavement counselling for families.
“I’m raising the money to put back into the hospice care,” Liza said. “As a charity, we only get a small amount of NHS funding, so the more money I can raise, the better it will be. I wanted to do something quite significant, and when this came up, I thought, what better way to raise money for the charity and to challenge myself?”
Dorothy House organises a challenging trek every couple of years to raise money for the hospice, and Liza and David have taken up the Peru challenge. Liza, who will be turning 60 in the year of the trek, added, “Another reason we’re doing this is that I want to be able to go into my sixties feeling like I’ve achieved something really challenging, get my fitness up, and really be proud of what we’ve done.”
To help reach their fundraising target, the couple have organised two events at Spencer’s Social Club: a quiz night on 26th October and a music and comedy night on 16th November. “Spencer’s Social Club has been fantastic, allowing us to use their venue free of charge because they know it’s for charity,” Liza said.
The couple have also planned three more events for next year, including a Valentine’s event with live bands and a DJ, also to be held at Spencer’s Social Club. “We really felt that we wanted to do some things in the community to bring people together while also fundraising,” Liza explained.
Tickets for the quiz night and music and comedy night are £10 per person. To secure your ticket, contact Liza on 07789675825.
