AN EXCITING weekend of music is coming to King George V Park (KGV) with a Live Band Night on Friday 31st May, followed by the return of the dance music festival, Shambles, on Saturday 1st June.
“This is the first year I’m hosting the Live Band Night event and the second year for Shambles Festival,” explained organiser James Wilkins. “I’m introducing the Live Band Night this year with the aim of making the most of the festival site by utilising it for a second event that will appeal to a different demographic than that of Shambles.
“On the Band Night, the bands will play a mix of indie rock and Britpop music in a big-top festival tent, while Shambles Festival will feature over 25 DJs across two stages playing a variety of dance music. Both events will feature a marquee bar, stalls for local traders and charities, as well as lots of festival-themed decoration across the site.
“On the Friday I’m looking forward to watching the bands Muttley and Wet Franc play. They’re both great acts and local to Melksham. On the Saturday there are too many DJs mention with some being local and others travelling from Bristol to perform! I can’t wait to see the variety of dance music being played across the two stages including genres such as house, garage and jungle music.
“I can’t emphasise enough how important I think it is that music events like this go ahead in rural places like Melksham. All too often, people in the town complain that there isn’t enough to do and these events provide an opportunity for cultural celebration, economic activity and tourism while bringing people together and benefiting local musicians, businesses and the wider community.
Tickets for both events can be purchased online and each event is ticketed separately.
Gates open for the live band night at 6pm, with music finishing at 9.30pm. Shambles Festival will then open the following day at 12pm, with the event closing at 10pm.
Tickets and further information can be found for the Band Night at tinyurl.com/melkshamband and for the Shambles Festival at www.shamblesfestival. co.uk.
Performing at the Live Band Night are Muttley and Wet Franc, which are both local bands.
